Objective
- Prepare For Debates!
Agenda
- Today is entirely dedicated to preparing for your debates, which will now begin on Monday. You shouldn't expect any more work time in class for the project, however.
- Reminders / Rubric (50 points)
- You will turn in ONE argument sheet for you and your partner. This will contain both the arguments supporting and opposing the resolution.
- 10 points for evidence of research and citations from reliable sources
- 10 points for clear, reasonable, and strong arguments that apply the evidence
- You will create TWO "cheat sheets" - each may be one side front and back. You and your partner may each have a copy of the relevant cheat sheet for the debate. This is *not* graded. However, you will be graded assuming you have one. Not preparing is a big disadvantage. (Ex: Your opening statement can safely be pre-written. If you're winging it, it probably won't be as strong).
- You will be graded based on your debate performance
- 20 points for argument quality. How well did you show that you know your stuff? Did you select arguments that are reasonable and persuasive? Did you respond to each of your opponent's claims, leaving no weak-points? Did you force your opponent to concede to some of your ideas?
- 10 points for debate performance. Speaking loudly and clearly, Eye contact (with opponents), sitting up straight, confidence, pacing your words, avoiding "ums" and "uhs", etc...
